Day 5 and a story

A bit more information--Mom has been moved back to The Huntsman Cancer Institute to the special care unit. The care is unbelievable--to be honest much better than the U of U ICU. All those involved in providing care for her go beyond their responsibilities. The special care unit only has six patients at a time, 6 nurses and 4 aides rotate to provide the care. So each patient has their own individual nurse. Words can't describe the care they are giving Mom.
She is extremely feisty today. One of the nurses came in to move her and Mom told her that she did NOT want to moved because the pain was excruciating. The nurse replied by telling her that she needed to be moved every two hours...Mom said "You call Mr. Huntsman to come down to my room and I guarantee you will not be moving me around...oh yea he is in Hawaii." The nurse gave a small smirk like what ever. What the nurse doesn't know is that we are very close friends with Mr. Huntsman's personal pilot, Bret and they really are in Hawaii. She also let them know that she would sit up and walk on her terms. Her and Kurt are so much alike.
We are seeing tiny improvements, her one and only kidney is beginning to function and her bowels are starting to wake up. These improvements are answers to prayers. Small they may be but significant in her graduating out the special needs unit to another level of care. She has being running a fever and there is crackling in her lungs but there is a careful watch on these symptoms. Her nights are not so good but again we know prayers are being answered.
We were very blessed yesterday afternoon to have Elder Gibbons come by to see Mom and the family. He gave her a beautiful blessing of courage to fight the cancer and confidence in decisions to be made. Each day is miracle to have Mom with us. Thank-you for your kind words. I can the light in her eyes as I read your cards and your thoughts to her. Our hearts are full of gratitude to each of you.

  5. Chris My Sis!!
So happy to know of the improvements you gain each day. Scott and I continue to pray continually for your recovery. Scott wrote you a letter and wants to tell you again to know that Heavenly Father is blessing you and loves you very much. He misses you a lot as do I. I can't wait to hug you in my arms! I read a statement by Elder Russell M. Nelson that reminded me totally of my Sister. He stated, "The Lord said, 'My work and glory (is)to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." So His devoted daughter-disciple may truly say, 'My work and my glory is to help my loved ones reach that heavenly goal.' "To help another human being reach one's celestial potential is part of the divine mission of woman." This has been etched in my sister's heart as she so beautifully lives a Christlike life for her family. The infuence and example she is to all of us motivates us to live better. Chris you are amazing! Always my big sister to look up to and strive to be like. Thanks for the great sister you have always been! Hurry up and get better so we can start having some fun! Love you so much!

  13. Sister Cook
I thought with all the hub bub in your lives you could use some Christmas Cheer! I have been thinking over the past several days what I could say that would give you a bit of holiday love.
As I sit here and type this I am surrounded by a wonderful family. I have four beautiful children and a lovely wife(very lovely wife:) that fills my days with joy, and as the boys start to approach those teenage years, chaos, pure chaos.
As I type this letter, I realize that I have never thanked you for being such a wonderful person to me. Thank you for the hugs, thank you for being an example of what I should look for in a wife, thank you for being you.

  15. Chris,
We'll be praying for you all the way from Australia. Our whole family loves you, but especially Emily (from activity days) and Caleb (from nursery). My sister struggled with cancer (it came back twice), but she's been cancer free for 5 years. All I can say is that I love the Huntsman center. They are the best. There are really hard parts, but we are all here to be your cheer leaders. You can do it.

Love, Juli and Shon Robinson and family
